ArcusStone Materials In Contact With Metal
Generally speaking, similar to requirements for other Portland cement based materials, there are three basic metal types that can be in contact with either the ArcusStonecoat™ or ArcusPlaster materials, whether inside or out, namely:
- Commercial grade galvanized metal conforming to ASTM A653-95, coating designation G-90 minimum
- Stainless steel type 304 alloy, meeting ASTM A666-96a, minimum 0.020 thick
- Copper meeting ASTM B370-92 HOO (cold rolled) tempered, minimum 16oz/sqft
Whether the metal in question is in the form of aesthetic reveals, control reglets, expansion joints, window or door frames, or other metallic features, these would be the general requirements for any metal that may be in contact with our materials.
As you see, there is no mention of aluminum or iron as these metals would very probably cause various issues if in contact with Portland cement based materials such as our products. Aluminum would degrade / disintegrate over time, especially in more humid / wet environments, and iron, unless otherwise adequately protected with an acceptable coating, would also react with various components in the materials to produce discoloration and staining of the materials, which is usually undesirable.
